Adjustment of the current

Regulierwerk         The adjustment of the current takes place fully automatically, namely by using a special resistor, the control, instead of a range multiplier. It consists of a special resistor construction of material with a high temperature coefficient. Fig. 4 shows an illustration of the control, which isn´t equipped with neither movable parts nor any further adjustment devices. The control is inserted in the line instead of the range multiplier and the lamps are burning with the current regulated by the control.
An adjustment of the lamp´s current by means of an ammeter isn´t therefore necessary. The control works in a way that the supply or lamp voltage can differ a lot before a considerable deviation of the normal current takes place. This also means that an adjustment of the lamp´s voltage isn´t that important because a steady current is guaranteed by the control just as the harmful influence of the voltage loss in the carbons is compensated by it.
It is evident that with this new lamp besides the control a new arc lamp system has been
established that, regarding the regulation and simplicity, represents a completely new construction, which differs from the former arc lamps. Compared to a differential regulation this system has got the big advantage that during disturbances in a lamp, for example by falling out of cored carbon mass, the emission of light respectively the calm burning isn´t impaired decisively.
The voltages increases considerably during the falling out of the cored carbon mass and in differential lamps the clockwork will squeeze the carbons very much so that the arc will be mostly reduced between the two carbons what causes the luminous effect to decrease a lot. In contrast to this the distance of the carbons in the Becklamp remains the same in this case, whereas it is the control´s characteric that the voltage´s increase has no remarkable influence on the current. This way the light arc remains firm in place even with faulty carbons and the emission of light remains stable. The control is suitable for direct as well as alternating current.
